How Email Spreading Works in Sequences

Email spreading helps space out when emails are sent to candidates, preventing large batches from being delivered at the exact same time.

How Sequences Send Emails

Each sequence is made up of stages:

Stage 1

  • Sent immediately after a candidate is enrolled

  • This is the first outreach email

Follow-Up Stages (Stage 2, Stage 3, etc.)

  • Sent after a defined delay (e.g., 3 days)

  • Can be configured as:

    • Reply (threaded) → continues the same email thread

    • New message (if applicable)

Timing & Delays

  • You can set delays between stages (e.g., 3 days after previous stage)

  • Timing is relative to:

    • When the candidate is enrolled

    • When the previous email was sent

How Email Spreading Applies

  • Emails are not always sent at the exact same second

  • Delivery may be slightly staggered across recipients

  • This helps maintain system performance and deliverability

Things to Know

  • Stage 1 may send immediately upon enrollment

  • Follow-ups respect the configured delay between stages

  • Reply (threaded) emails appear in the same conversation thread

  • Email timing may include slight variation (spreading)

Best Practices

  • Use delays (e.g., 2–3 days) between follow-ups

  • Keep messaging consistent across stages

  • Review timing before enrolling candidates

  • Use threaded replies for better engagement

Example Flow

  • Stage 1 → sent immediately

  • Stage 2 → sent 3 days later

  • Stage 3 → sent 3 days after Stage 2
