Use cases for Sequences

Sequences in Puck automate candidate communication based on actions or stage changes in your ATS. They also track engagement metrics.

⏱️ 1. Assessment Invites & Reminders

The most common use case for sequences is guiding candidates through AI interviews (called AI Interviews Outreach)

  • How it works: When a candidate enters an assessment stage, Puck sends an instant invite link. If they do not finish, automatic reminder messages follow up.

  • Sample schedule:

    • Day 0: Invitation to fast track application with an AI Interview invite link

    • Day 1: Gentle reminder email

    • Day 3: Final expiration notice

  • Why it helps: Keeps candidates moving forward without recruiters tracking due dates.

🎯 2. Hard to fill & Executive Sourcing

Send relevant content over time to engage specialized or executive talent.

  • How it works: Outreach sequences share links to customized content pages, and team podcasts.

  • Sample schedule:

    • Touchpoint 1: Intro email with a link to a content page

    • Touchpoint 2 (Day 3): Follow-up with a pod from the Hiring Manager pitching the job

    • Touchpoint 3 (Day 6): Invitation to schedule an introductory call with a calendar link

  • Why it helps: Replaces long, dry emails with engaging multimedia.

📅 3. Event Sourcing & Talent Community Nurturing

Automatically follow up with candidates who scan a QR code or fill out a form at recruiting events.

  • How it works: When a candidate expresses interest at an event, they can scan a QR code to enter a list instantly. You can then enroll the candidates in bulk to a sequence.

  • Sample schedule:

    • Immediate: "Thanks for visiting our booth" message with a company link

    • 1 week later: Summary of open roles and team updates

  • Why it helps: Captures leads on the spot so event contacts do not go cold.

📚 4. Candidate Experience & Interview Preparation

Lower candidate anxiety and ensure better interview performance by sending structured prep materials before scheduled assessments.

  • How it works: Enroll a candidate into a sequence when they move into a stage. The sequence can provide content such as Interview Guides detailing what to expect, who they are meeting, and how to prepare.

  • Sample schedule:

    • Email: "How to prepare for your [Role] AI Interview" + Interview Guide link

  • Why it matters: Sets clear expectations and ensures candidates bring their best selves to the assessment.

💡 Best Practices for Automated Sequences

  • Disable Native ATS Emails: Ensure duplicate emails aren't sent from both your ATS and Puck at the same time.

  • AI Interviews Outreach sequences disable when the candidate completes the interview.

  • Keep Text Messages Short: If using SMS sequences, keep copy concise and focus on clear, direct calls-to-action (e.g., direct links to complete the session).

  • Set Clear Expiration Windows: Inform candidates when an assessment link expires to create a subtle, effective sense of urgency.
